Dealing With Doubt

SERMON BY: Bro. Trey Graf
SERMON TITLE: Dealing With Doubt
SERMON THEME: Was Jesus REALLY the Messiah?
SERMON SERIES: Guest Speakers
SERMON VERSES: Matthew 11:1-6

It’s easy to doubt when we have...
* Mistaken expectations
* Difficult circumstances
* Questions about God’s control and care
Two options when dealing with doubt
* Harbor it... and allow it to cripple you
* Take the confusion to Jesus and let Him give us peace. He is sufficient!

Matthew 11:1-6 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. 2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Have We Lost Our Desire for LIGHT?

SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Have We Lost Our Desire for LIGHT?
SERMON THEME: The Danger of SPIRITUAL Blindness
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 10:46-52

* Our world is becoming exponentially more dark (spiritually)!
* Prove the spirits!  Be not deceived!
* We must be determined to find and follow Truth.
* We will obtain as much light as we want!—nothing is stopping us!

Mark 10:46   And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. 50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. 52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

An Inside Job

Watch/Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player

Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK
DATE: Wednesday PM, February 24, 2020
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: An Inside Job
SERMON THEME: Beware Taking Advantage of Brethren—God is Watching
SERMON SERIES: Nehemiah
SERMON TEXT: Nehemiah 5:1-13

* Let there be no division in the body of Christ
* As a church, we HAVE to stick together!  We are brethren.
* God is watching!
* As we enter into the Last Days, we will face more and more attack.  We NEED each other.
* As imperfect as we all are, we all need to stick together, standing firm on the Doctrine and Word of Christ.

Nehemiah 5:1   And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews. 2 For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live. 3 Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth. 4 There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. 5 Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

Nehemiah 5:6   And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. 7 Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them. 8 And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer. 9 Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? 10 I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury. 11 Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them. 12 Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

Mark 10:32   And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, 33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: 34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Don't Miss the Obvious

SERMON BY: Bro. Lynn Schuyler
SERMON TITLE: Don’t Miss the Obvious
SERMON THEME: The Danger of Fear-induced Tunnel Vision
SERMON SERIES: Standing in the Gap
SERMON TEXT: 1Samuel 21:1-15

1. Trust God in EVERY situation!
2. Get/stay in the Word-stand fast in the promises of God.
3. Pray to God in every situation
4. Yield to God-give God the reigns

1Samuel 21:1   Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee? 2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place. 3 Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present. 4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. 5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. 6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away. 7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul. 8 And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste. 9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

1Samuel 21:10   And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. 11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands? 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. 14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me? 15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

You Must Come (to Jesus) Like a Child!

Watch/Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player

Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK

DATE: Sunday PM, February 14, 2021
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: You Must Come (to Jesus) Like a Child!
SERMON THEME: Jesus Uses Innocent Children to Portray the Heart Necessary for Salvation
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 10:13-16; Matthew 18:1-10

* Our conversation will come ONLY when we come to Jesus with Childlike Faith.
* Our self-esteem and humility is to be LIKE a Child.
* Be very, very careful not to offend children, else expect the judgment of God!

Mark 10:13   And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

Matthew 18:1   At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Matthew 18:7   Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. 10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven

The Fatal Flaw

Watch/Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player

Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK

DATE: Sunday AM, February 14, 2021
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: The Fatal Flaw
SERMON THEME: The Deadly Danger of Works Religion—Beware Trusting in Things, Position, and Dogma
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 10:17-31; Philippians 3:8

Fatal Flaw 1: All sin is NOT the same - There are different consequences for different sins, in Life, and with God!
Fatal Flaw 2: Cain Religion - insisting that we can serve God OUR way!

* Make sure we possess Christ, and not just profess Christ.  Our lifestyle should line up with the teachings of Jesus and His Word.  Beware of unbelief
* Beware of the fatal flaws we CAN experience in our own lives.  Not every sin is alike; some come with grave and deadly consequences.
* Beware of the lures of this life!  The god of this world will tempt us to choose the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life… instead of repentance and faith.  We must be willing to give up everything, for Jesus’ blood-bought salvation.  As did Moses, we must esteem the riches of Christ greater than the riches offered by this fallen, dying World.
* When we embrace Jesus in repentance and absolute faith, He will eternally seal us, and bless us now and forever.

Mark 10:17   And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. 23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. 28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

Never, Ever Quit!

Watch/Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player

Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK
DATE: Wednesday PM, February 10, 2020
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Never, Ever Quit!
SERMON THEME: When Your Life is a Calling, and Not Just a Job, Everything Changes
SERMON SERIES: Nehemiah
SERMON TEXT: Nehemiah 4:7-23

Is our Christianity a calling… or just a “job”?
* Quitters never win; winners never quit!
* There will always be obstacles; life isn’t fair, and it never will be. So, decide NOW not to allow the obstacles to hinder you!
* There will always be fatigue; decide now to stick it out.
* The reasons to stay usually outweigh the reasons to leave.
* There is a time to stay and fight!

Nehemiah 4:7   But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, 8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. 9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them. 10 And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall. 11 And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease. 12 And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you. 13 Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. 14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses. 15 And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.

Nehemiah 4:16   And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. 17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. 18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me. 19 And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. 20 In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us. 21 So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared. 22 Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day. 23 So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.

* Perseverance pays off

Hear, O our God; for We are Despised

SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Hear, O our God; for We are Despised
SERMON THEME: Spiritual Bullying
SERMON SERIES: Nehemiah
SERMON TEXT: Nehemiah 4:1-6

Success always breeds opposition, and often buy ridicule.
* Our enemies challenge our abilities. If we become convinced that we can’t... then we won’t!
* Our enemies decry our logistics. The Jews were few!  But... God loves to take just a few and do much.
* Our enemies will mock us because we haven’t been serious-minded in the past.   They will amplify our past failures.
* Our enemies will challenge our perseverance!
* Our enemies will attack our resources!  Since Christians are a small minority,  their resources are also relatively small.

How to respond to verbal attack?
* PRAY... and turn it over to God!
* Be persistent!
* Be resolved and focused!
