* God gave David promises and blessings
* God delivered him from the Lion and bear
* God gives Goliath into his hand
* God placed him into Saul’s court

Then, God started bring tests and separated him one by one from all those things that he might depend upon.

And now in the lowest of lows, God had him right where He needed him to be. In the ruins of Ziklag, all David had... was God!

What does it mean to encourage ourselves in the Lord?
- First, David had to choose to seek encouragement, instead of wallowing in self-pity.
- Second, he had to remember who God IS (the Almighty promise-keeper) and what He had already done. He can turn evil into good. His grace is always sufficient.  He is always enough.
- Third, for the born-again believer, God is Our God, He is our Father, and we must remember that nothing can touch us without His permission.
- Fourth, we must see all of life through His Biblical paradigm.

* God’s path can seem and be confusing - we have to just trust Him, and take life a step at a time.
* God’s path can often be inconvenient - they were exposed to dangers of wild animals, robbers, of getting lost, with no human support.
* God’s path can be long - it was at least an eleven day journey to Egypt, and Joseph was not told how long they would be there.  
* God’s path always leads to fulfillment - He never wastes our experiences, using all to conform us into the image of His Son.

Three things that never fail…
* GOD is fair - No respect of persons (v 17)
* SALVATION is everlasting - (vv18-23)
* God’s WORD endures forever (v 25)

Why do we need to be reminded of these truths?  It is because all Christians are UNIFIED in these three truths   …see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently (see v 22).

How to love the brethren…
* Sincerely (not fake!)
* Intentionally (choose to love!)
* Eliminate divisiveness

* Traditions have their place.  God set up many traditions, to cause the people to REMEMBER!
* Traditions are not a replacement for true heart-worship of God, i.e., Lip-religion vs. Heart-religion.  The Pharisees were so careful to keep laws and traditions, but they had no relationship with God!  Outwardly they were religious but inwardly they were wicked and lost.
* When traditions supersede God’s commands, there is a big problem… and the problem is with our HEART!  When we hear the Word, and do not embrace it and live it, we make it of none effect!
