SERMON THEME: The Temptation of Jesus
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 1:13-14; Luke 4:1-13
Satan attacks in three realms
* Appetite - a desire for pleasure, I.e., the lusts of the flesh
* Possessions and Material things - the lusts of the eyes
* Ambition, Power, and Recognition - the pride of life
Applications
- Satan can entice but not enforce! We like to blame Satan, but for the Christian the buck stops with us!
- Satan is a master at twisting scripture and using it out of context... and do are we!
- Scripture properly used, is a key to avoid falling into sin!
- Resisting Satan will cause him to desist, for a season. He targets us; he knows.
- We will battle temptations until we go home to Jesus, so we better be strong in the Lord.
- Jesus succors those who are temped!
Keep fighting!
Have grace, avoid bring judgemental

SERMON BY: Bro. Tim Russell
SERMON TITLE: Last Days Living
SERMON THEME: Signs of the Last Days
SERMON SERIES: Keep the Faith
SERMON VERSES: 2Timothy 3:1-
Signs of the Last Days: More and more people will become…
* Self-centered: lovers of self, wealth, and pleasure
* Arrogant and proud:
* Godless: blasphemers, unthankful, unholy, empty-religionists
* Relationally toxic: disobedient to parents, truce breakers, false accusers, without natural affection
* Unruly: Incontinent, fierce, haters of good, traitors, heady or reckless
* Misled: Women today being misled more than in the past, people are ever learning but staying spiritually blind;
Applications: To avoid becoming like wicked men, we must…
* Know that God will reveal false teachers for who they are
* Turn away from sinful reprobates; don’t allow the wickedness affect the culture of the local churches
* Follow the examples of faithful, godly men
* Expect trouble to come; don’t be blindsided by opposition and attack
* Cheer up… things will only get worse and worse!
* Stay faithful in Truth!

Baptism: A Public Testimony of Salvation and Submission
Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player
Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK
DATE: Sunday AM, May 10, 2020
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Baptism: A Public Testimony of Salvation and Submission
SERMON THEME:The Significance of Baptism
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 1:4-11
Mark 1:4-11 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; 7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Mark 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: 11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
We baptize…
* those who have repented and believed in Jesus THE Messiah and Savior (What REAL believer does not want to ID with Jesus?) to demonstrate that salvation is REAL!
* those who have come from a different doctrinal set or denomination (as a testimony that they are aligning with our Baptist doctrine)
* because Jesus commanded it (the Great Commission)
* to fulfill ALL righteousness
Jesus was baptized…
* to validate John’s minatory and John’s God-given authority
* to receive the testimony from Heaven!
* to set an example for all New Testament believers who choose to follow Him!
Applications
1. Baptism is NOT a part of salvation (e.g., Jesus didn’t Baptize and Paul baptized little), but it is and example of submission and obedience to Jesus.
2. New beginning (walking in newness of life!)
3. Baptism identifies us with our particular group, specifically our distinct doctrinal set and the authority of our particular local assembly

SERMON VERSES: Proverbs 3:5, 6
Proverbs 3:5, 6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
If we will but…
* TRUST the LORD with ALL your heart — He’s taken care of our eternal life. Surely we can trust Him with THIS life! He is in total control, and we are His children that He loved enough to sacrifice His own Son.
* and not LEAN into your own understanding (Our hearts are desperately wicked and our pride is without measure).
* and in all WAYS (everything you do) acknowledge HIM! (Follow God’s lead!)
When we do these things…
* He will direct us! As in the 40-year wilderness sojourn, He is our trailblazer! He will make our paths spiritually prosperous, an abundant life (His definition, not ours!).

Preparing the Way—Pre-Evangelism
Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player
Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK
DATE: Sunday AM, May 3, 2020
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Preparing the Way—Pre-Evangelism
SERMON THEME: God Sent John, Preaching REPENTANCE, to Prepare the Nation for The Messiah
SERMON SERIES: The Gospel by Mark
SERMON VERSES: Mark 1:1-8
The Gospel by Mark (written by John Mark) is written to the Gentiles, specifically the Romans. This is most likely the John Mark that failed as a missionary-trainee in the book of Acts, and was refused by Paul, but then trained by Barnabas.
**Mark 1:1-8** *The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; 2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.*
* John was sent to prepare the way for Jesus’ First Coming. We are here to Prepare the Way for Jesus’ Second Coming.
* John made an impact because his life matched his message. He lived out his convictions and made his job his priority! He had God’s power and God’s message! He didn’t worry about fitting into his nation’s religious system or its carnal lifestyles.

* Like John, we have a vital ministry! So, like John, let’s be separated, passionate, and faithful!

SERMON TEXT: Ephesians 4
Ephesians 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
Ephesians 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

SERMON TITLE: A Perfect Storm
SERMON THEME: Choose to Have FAITH in the Fray
SERMON SERIES: Standing in the Gap
SERMON VERSES: Mark 4:35-41
**Mark 4:35-41** *And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?*
Believers are guaranteed to pass over unto the other side THROUGH life’s storms; it’s guaranteed by our Savior!

SERMON TITLE: Saul’s Day of Reckoning

SERMON SERIES: 1Samuel
SERMON VERSES: 1Samuel 31
**1Samuel 31:1-13** *Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. 2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons. 3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. 4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. 5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. 6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together. 7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. 8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. 9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people. 10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan. 11 And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul; 12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there. 13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.*

- The Death of Saul - Israel’s idol is broken in pieces! A monarchy was never God’s choice or will, He only allowed it. Israel put their trust in a man!
- The Enemy Possesses the Land and desecrates the bodies of the King and his sons.
- The valiant men of Jabeshgilead honor the fallen King and his sons
- You may get what you want, but you often lose what you had! - If you reject God and choose man’s ways, then you get man’s results!
- Your choices will leave a lasting impact on those around you. Every choice we make has a consequence and those consequences often produce collateral damage!
- When you lose in life, you drag down the name of God with you; we bring SHAME upon our Creator!

The End of All Things
Listen here using the Embedded Subsplash Player
Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, OK
DATE: Wednesday PM, April 22, 2020
SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: The End of All Things
SERMON THEME: As We See the End Coming, How Should Be Behave?
SERMON SERIES: Edifying the Body
SERMON TEXT: 1Peter 4:7-11; Revelation 13:14-18
**1Peter 4:7-11** *But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.*
**Revelation 13:14** *And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.*
Because we know the end is close… how should we behave?
1. We need to be sober (serious-minded; sound-minded; in control of passions) about our life and our service to Jesus. We need to forsake the sins of the flesh and repent of wrong life-choices.
2. We need to watch (be alert) so we can pray effectively and wisely to what’s going on, and especially what’s going on spiritually)
3. And above all, we MUST have charity (love) for fellow brethren so that we might be tolerant of each other’s shortcomings and failings.
4. Use hospitality (helping others) without grumbling or complaining
5. Be a good steward of your own spiritual gift(s). We have been graced to complement the local church. USE THAT GIFT!

SERMON SERIES: Learning Together
SERMON VERSES: Acts 16:23-31
When we are interrupted, we must…
* remain faithful in our praise, worship, and thankfulness God! - This is a testimony to the lost that we have hope when the world has fear!
* love people
* be faithful to take advantage of other opportunities to spread the Good News! God’s work cannot be interrupted!
**Acts 16:23-31** *And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. 31 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.*

Handling the Spoils… Without Becoming Spoiled!

SERMON BY: Dr. John Waterloo
SERMON TITLE: Handling the Spoils… Without Becoming Spoiled!
SERMON THEME: The Wise Use of God’s Blessings
SERMON SERIES: 1Samuel
SERMON VERSES: 1Samuel 30; 1Corinthians 12; Hebrews 13:16; 2Corinthians 8:13-15
To whom much is given, much is expected! But be careful! If we are given much, we often expect much more!
David demonstrated…
* Wonderful Guidance
* Wonderful Generosity
* Immense Gratitude - David remembered those who had invested in his life and survival. He gave gifts of his spoil to all those who had aided them in their hiding from Saul. We ought to be giving back to those who have helped us in our lives. We need to appreciate our Savior, our parents, our grandparents, our teachers, our employers, our government, our church, our pastors, and etc.

**1Samuel 30:18-31** *And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives. 19 And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all. 20 And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before those other cattle, and said, This is David’s spoil. 21 And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them. 22 Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart. 23 Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand. 24 For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike. 25 And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel unto this day. 26 And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD; 27 To them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in south Ramoth, and to them which were in Jattir, 28 And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth, and to them which were in Eshtemoa, 29 And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites, 30 And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chorashan, and to them which were in Athach, 31 And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men were wont to haunt.*

To whom much is given, much is expected! But be careful! If we are given much, we often expect much more!
David demonstrated…
* Wonderful Guidance
* Wonderful Generosity
